IREM SF Luncheon: Cyber Crimes

The FBI is the lead federal agency for investigating cyber attacks by criminals, overseas adversaries, and terrorists. The threat is incredibly serious—and growing. Cyber intrusions are becoming more commonplace, more dangerous, and more sophisticated. Our nation’s critical infrastructure, including both private and public sector networks, are targeted by adversaries. American companies are targeted for trade secrets and other sensitive corporate data.

Presented by

LuAnna Harmon
Special Agent, FBI

LuAnna Harmon has been a Special Agent with the FBI for 27 years. After ten years working violent criminal investigations, she has since been investigating cyber crimes, including criminal and National Security computer intrusions. She has worked internationally with the Hungarian, Romanian and South Korean National Police, and as a Cyber Crime Investigator in the Ukraine. LuAnna has a B.S. Degree in Computer Science, and an MBA.

The most prevalent cyber threat facing businesses today is Business Email Compromise (BEC). LuAnna will present details of BEC to IREM San Francisco so we will come away with a global perspective on the extent of the threat. We'll learn the hallmarks of a BEC scam, the multiple impacts of the scam, and best business practices to prevent the crime.
