HP10BII Financial Calculator Required:

The HP10BII financial calculator is required for the FIN402 course. Course materials illustrate keystrokes for this calculator only. Students taking this course are expected to have a working knowledge of the basic operations and functionality of the calculator. Students are encouraged to download the “HP10BII Financial Calculator Quick Reference Guide” from www.irem.org/pdfs/education/QuickReferenceGuide.pdf and review it prior to taking the course.

IREM SF has its day in court

The last place most of us want to be is in court. But two IREM members have found that the courtroom offers some significant income opportunities, and in an unstable economy these revenue streams are welcome indeed. CPM Bob Miller has seen it all. As an expert witness or consultant in over 500 property management related lawsuits, Bob has stories that will make your hair stand on end—or have you roaring with laughter. During a long career in real estate management, Bob has managed and employed thousands of real estate professionals as well as being responsible for more than 85,000 apartment units and 28 million square feet of commercial real estate in 46 cities. His impressive list of designations and accomplishments includes the presidency of IREM and the Forensic Expert Witness Association.

As our luncheon speaker, Bob will share a half dozen of his favorite cases and talk about what it takes to be an expert witness and why you may want to consider it as a career path.

CPM Jim Cantrell is a familiar face in IREM classrooms, but in addition to running a commercial and residential management company, Jim has extensive experience with receiverships, bankruptcies and REO management opportunities. Join us in the morning for a special workshop “Bad Times Can Be Great Times.” You’ll learn what opportunities are out there; where specific deals can be found; and what resources are available to help you take advantage of the “Great Times.”

Jim is president of Cantrell, Harris & Associates, a San Francisco-based real estate management and consulting firm that was formed by Ron Harris 40 years ago. He joined as a partner 22 years ago. Jim has over 35 years of asset and property management experience and specializes in the turnaround of properties with deferred maintenance and mismanagement. For both private and institutional investors, he has managed a variety of product types, including rent-controlled multi-family, high-rise office, industrial/warehouse properties, retail and large hotels.
